Eco-Friendly School Supplies
Encourage your local office supply store to carry more sustainable products and demand ones that are not packaged in plastic packaging. Here are a few products to consider. If you know of others, let us know.
Writing Utensils
Forest Choice Pencils - These are unpainted pencils and the shavings can be composted. However, it does have a plastic eraser that is not compostable. These are also Forest Stewardship Certified.
Forest Choice Colored Pencils - These are unpainted pencils and the shavings can be composted. The last 1.5 inches has the color paint so that would be trash. These are also Forest Stewardship Certified. Stabilo Woody 3-in-1 - These thick wooden pencils can serve as markers and art pencils. They are blendable like oil pastels and when water is applied, they are watercolor pencils. They will last for years. They do come with a plastic sharpener. :( |
Binders, Notebooks & PaperReBinders - The cardboard covers that can be replaced. The cardboard is not super sturdy.
Naked Binders - These are a bit more expensive then ReBinders and are sturdier. Naked Folders - These folders are from Forest Stewardship Certified and 97% is from post-consumer waste. Decomposition Notebooks - There are lots of cool cover designs. They are made from 100% post-consumer waste (this means all the material is from recycled paper). |
